Ten of Wands

The Ten of Wands is the card of a man bent under an armful of ten staves, walking toward a town. Readers traditionally take it as burden, responsibility and hard work, and Waite gives it oppression and success that has turned into a weight.

Upright

Carrying everything at once, the figure cannot see where he is going. Readers link the card to overload: too many commitments, work that should be shared, or success that brought more duties than it was worth. It is often read as the end of a fiery cycle, when enthusiasm has turned into obligation and the house in the distance still looks far off.

Reversed

Setting burdens down is the usual reversed meaning. Readers see delegation, saying no or letting go of duties that were never yours to carry. Some also read it as a load too heavy to hold, which makes help and rest a practical priority.

In love and at work

One partner doing most of the emotional or household work is a frequent relationship reading. For a job it points to long hours, an unmanageable workload or a promotion that brought pressure along with the title. Readers use it to look at what could be shared or dropped.

A man in brown and orange walks away from us, hugging a bundle of ten wands against his chest so that his face is hidden behind them. Ahead lie plowed fields and a house or small town with trees. The Golden Dawn assigned the card to Saturn in Sagittarius.
