Sun in Sagittarius
The Sun in Sagittarius is associated with optimism, candor and a love of freedom. Astrologers read it as a seeker, someone drawn to travel, big ideas and the question of what it all means.
What the Sun stands for
In a birth chart the Sun is the center of the self: will, vitality and the sense of purpose a person grows into. Ancient astrologers counted it as one of the two lights, with the Moon, and read it for life force and standing in the world.
Modern astrology puts the Sun sign first because it is the one placement anyone can work out from a birthday. That popularity began with Alan Leo around 1900 and the newspaper horoscope columns of the 1930s. The Sun is still only one part of a chart, and it reads best alongside the Moon and the rising sign.
How astrologers read it
Sagittarius is Jupiter's fire sign, and a Sagittarius Sun is usually described as expansive and forward-looking. It wants room to explore, whether that means another country, another philosophy or simply a new way of doing things.
Honesty is a strong theme with this placement. A Sagittarius Sun tends to say exactly what it thinks, which can be refreshing or tactless depending on the day.
In relationships
A Sagittarius Sun in love is usually described as fun, honest and in need of space. It does best with a partner who shares its curiosity and doesn't try to fence it in.
Strengths and shadows
The gifts are enthusiasm, generosity and a sense of humor that survives bad news. The difficulties are restlessness, overpromising, and a tendency to preach once it has found an answer.
