Aquarius rising

What the rising sign stands for

The rising sign, or Ascendant, is the sign that was coming up over the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. It marks the start of the first house and sets the layout of the whole chart. Astrologers read it as a person's manner, how they meet the world and how others first see them.

Every sign rises in the course of a day, about one every two hours on average, so the Ascendant needs an accurate birth time and place. The planet that rules the rising sign is called the chart ruler, and many astrologers give it extra weight in reading the whole chart.

How astrologers read it

Saturn rules an Aquarius Ascendant in the traditional scheme, and Uranus in the modern one. People with this rising sign often come across as open and easy to talk to, yet somehow hard to know well.

They tend to value their independence and to be interested in ideas, groups and causes. Many are described as having an original style or way of thinking.

In relationships

With Aquarius rising, Leo falls on the seventh house cusp. Astrologers read that as an attraction to warm, expressive partners who bring some heat to its cool manner.

Strengths and shadows

Friendliness and originality are the first impression. The same manner can seem detached or aloof, and they may resist being told what to do.

In a Caelumia profile

Caelumia reads Aquarius rising toward these themes, then weighs them with the rest of a chart and numbers before anything is shown: Idealism, Independence, Curiosity, Sociability.
