Sun in Libra

The Sun in Libra is associated with grace, fairness and a gift for partnership. Traditional astrology counts the Sun as in fall here, and modern astrologers read that as a self that is found through relationships more than alone.

What the Sun stands for

In a birth chart the Sun is the center of the self: will, vitality and the sense of purpose a person grows into. Ancient astrologers counted it as one of the two lights, with the Moon, and read it for life force and standing in the world.

Modern astrology puts the Sun sign first because it is the one placement anyone can work out from a birthday. That popularity began with Alan Leo around 1900 and the newspaper horoscope columns of the 1930s. The Sun is still only one part of a chart, and it reads best alongside the Moon and the rising sign.

How astrologers read it

The Sun is in fall in Libra because the sign sits opposite its exaltation in Aries, at the autumn equinox when the days begin to shorten. Older authors took this as a weakened Sun. Modern writers tend to read it as a person whose identity is shaped by others, someone who thinks in terms of "we" before "I".

A Libra Sun is often described as diplomatic, charming and attentive to beauty. It dislikes open conflict and is usually good at seeing both sides.

In relationships

Partnership is central for a Libra Sun, and astrologers often describe it as most itself in a relationship. It is attentive and romantic, and it needs to watch that it does not lose its own wishes in the process.

Strengths and shadows

The gifts are tact, fairness and a sense of proportion. The difficulties are indecision, a habit of keeping the peace at its own expense, and leaning on a partner for a sense of self.
